Lady Hemphill Honoured
■ LAST Sunday, Lady Anne Hemphill,
whom with her husband the late Lord
Peter Patrick Hemphill founded the
famous Tulira Stud, was presented with
a special award by RDS president Fonsie
Mealy in the main arena. The award was
presented in recognition of her distinguished contribution to equestrianism in
Ireland.
Looking back through the bloodlines
of Connemara champions in Ireland
and all over the world, the Tulira prefix
features in many pedigrees. Lady Anne
also laid the foundations for pony clubs
in many counties by relentlessly giving
her time and expertise to young people
as a mentor, breeder. As an international
judge, few if any could match her knowledge of both horses and hounds on the
hunting field.
It was fitting that her huge contribution was so deservedly recognised in the
company of her daughters Angela Cookson and Mary Anne Nelson and family
members at this great venue.
